Meet Christy Brady
Christy Brady serves as Philadelphia’s City Controller, dedicated to promoting transparency, accountability, and efficiency in city government. With a career rooted in public service and financial oversight, Christy has consistently worked to ensure that taxpayer dollars are managed responsibly and in alignment with the needs of Philadelphia’s residents.
Christy began her career as an entry-level auditor and rose through the ranks to become the first female Deputy Controller of Audit, where she led the largest division in the Controller’s Office. In this role, she oversaw a professional staff conducting financial, performance, and compliance audits for municipal departments and agencies. She rendered opinions on the Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports, evaluated assumptions in the city’s Five-Year Plan for PICA, and ensured the effective use of public resources.
Appointed Acting City Controller by Mayor Kenney on November 7, 2022, Christy managed the operations of the Controller’s Office, including Pre-Audit, Audit, Investigations, and Finance, Policy, and Data divisions. She served on the Board of Pensions and Retirement, overseeing investment management and pension benefit payments, and as a member of the Sinking Fund Commission, administering the PGW Pension Plan. Additionally, she contributed to Philadelphia’s fiscal stability by approving bond issues as a member of the city’s Bond Committee and certifying the city’s debt capacity and capital project compliance.
A Certified Public Accountant, Christy is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Association of Local Government Auditors. She was honored with the Excellence in Government Leadership Award by the Association of Government Accountants, recognizing her as a model of leadership in the government sector.
Under Christy’s leadership, the City Controller’s Office has:
- Investigated delays in the city’s process for demolishing dangerous properties.
- Held the city accountable for missteps in spending gun violence prevention funding.
- Analyzed the distribution of millions in state-received opioid settlement funds.
- Reviewed recent declines in public safety staffing levels.
- Identified millions of dollars lost through property tax fraud.
- Monitored current spending and progress for the city’s Rebuild program.
A proud Philadelphian, Christy brings extensive experience in auditing, compliance, and fiscal analysis. Her office provides independent audits, evaluates the effectiveness of city programs, and issues reports that empower citizens with critical insights into municipal spending and operations.
Beyond her professional achievements, Christy is deeply committed to her community. She lives in the Fox Chase neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia with her husband and three children. Christy holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science, now known as Jefferson University, where she played soccer and softball. She is also a passionate advocate for educational and recreational opportunities for youth and an active supporter of local initiatives that enhance the city’s quality of life.

She also served as a member of the Sinking Fund Commission, which administers the Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) Pension Plan, overseeing the investment of revenues paid into the sinking fund to help meet pension liabilities for PGW employees. She approved bond issues as a member of the city’s Bond Committee and certified the City of Philadelphia’s debt capacity and the capital nature and useful life of capital projects built with bond proceeds.
Christy is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Global Management Accountant. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Association of Local Government Accountants (AGA). Christy received the Excellence in Government Leadership Award by the Association of Government Accountants recognizing her as an individual who has displayed leadership excellence in the government sector and as a role model for others.
