Meet Christy Brady

Christy lives in the Fox Chase neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia with her husband and three children. She grew up in Olney where she attended St. Ambrose Elementary School until 6th grade, when her family moved to Cheltenham. She attended Cheltenham High School where she played softball and on the powerful basketball team. She graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science, now known as Jefferson University, where she played soccer and softball. Christy volunteers in the community with the Scouts, her children’s elementary and high schools, and also coaches softball, soccer, and basketball. She continues to play soccer in a women’s league in Parkwood.
With nearly 30 years of experience in the Philadelphia Office of the City Controller, Christy first began her career as an entry level auditor under City Controller Jonathan Saidel and worked her way up the ladder to Deputy Controller of Audit under City Controller Alan Butkovitz. She was the first female to hold that title and to lead the largest division in the Controller’s Office. Christy Brady has dedicated her career to protecting the citizens of Philadelphia from fraud, waste, and abuse, and improving the effectiveness of government operations.

As the Deputy Controller of Audit, Christy oversaw a professional staff of auditors who conducted financial, performance, and compliance audits for a variety of municipal departments and agencies. She rendered opinions on the Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports and the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards of the City and School District of Philadelphia. She was also tasked with evaluating the reasonableness of the assumptions and estimates in the city’s Five Year Plan for PICA.

Appointed Acting City Controller by Mayor Kenney on November 7, 2022, Christy managed the operations of the Controller’s Office including the Pre-Audit, Audit, Investigations, and Finance, Policy and Data Divisions. She served on the Board of Pensions and Retirement, overseeing the management of investments and the payment of pension benefits. She also served as a member of the Sinking Fund Commission, which administers the Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) Pension Plan, overseeing the investment of revenues paid into the sinking fund to help meet pension liabilities for PGW employees. She approved bond issues as a member of the city’s Bond Committee and certified the City of Philadelphia’s debt capacity and the capital nature and useful life of capital projects built with bond proceeds.

Christy is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Global Management Accountant. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Association of Local Government Accountants (AGA). Christy received the Excellence in Government Leadership Award by the Association of Government Accountants recognizing her as an individual who has displayed leadership excellence in the government sector and as a role model for others.
